Recital Reminders

Recital Reminders
Dress rehearsal:
**Combo classes please arrive in your ballet costume and then you will change when the other class is doing their dance. Moms or other female guardians, please help your child change (it will keep the process speedy). During the recital, the classroom mom(s) will help change.
**Drop dancers off on the side of the building. It enters onto the stage. Please walk behind the curtain and not across the stage. Please keep voices low. Dressing rooms are off of the stage. You may change in the dressing room with your class name on it, or wherever there is room.
**Hair & Makeup needs to be the same as for recital. People video and take pictures, it is nice if everyone is uniform.
**You may video or take pictures of your child’s dance during DRESS REHEARSAL only. If you would like a copy of the show, please purchase a video. There is no obligation to purchase one.
**Please be on time (come earlier if you need to get dressed there). We do not wait.

Recital:
**Please be there early. Class moms will have a roster and will notify use of any issues that may arise.
**Please bring dancers in through the side door as you did for the rehearsal.
**Please check the back of the page to see what order your child’s dances are in. Please come ready with the first costume on and covered up OR ready to put it on when you get to the theatre.
**Once you have dropped your child off, please make your way to the lobby. Once you leave, you cannot come back into the dressing room unless you have a volunteer badge (if you have questions regarding this, please see Claire or Kristi). Please understand that this is for your child’s safety. If there is a problem, we will come and get you.
**Doors open 30 in. prior to show time. Seating is general admission. There is not a “bad” seat in the house. No fighting! J We will be using Carolina Theatre ushers, and they are there to uphold the rules of Carolina Theatre. Please respect them.
**The armbands that were given to you in the recital packet are for PARENTS. Dancers will be given one before they are released. There will be an order of dismissal in the back of the recital program.

Recital Info Part 4

PART 4: Student Drop-Off and Pickup
Dress Rehearsal Drop-Off and Pickup

Parent or guardian should bring the students to their assigned dressing rooms, put their belongings in the dressing room and change costumes. Parent or guardian must remain in the auditorium until his or her child(ren) have been dismissed. Moms, please help change your daughter during dress rehearsal, so we can keep moving. When a class has completed its last performance, you may leave.

Dress Rehearsal Dismissal
Students will be dismissed from rehearsal once they have completed all of their routines.
Recital Performance Arrival and Dismissal
Parents or guardians should bring the students to their assigned dressing rooms 45 minutes to 1 hour before show time, where they will be checked in and placed under the supervision of their class mom(s). Students will remain backstage for the entire performance. After the finale, the class mom will bring the group to the auditorium lobby to be picked up. The order in which classes will be released will be in your program. Armbands (in your recital packet) must be worn by the person who is picking your child up. Dancers will have matching armbands. Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms after the children have been checked in for the recital. Please see us for a badge if you need to get backstage. Please see us PRIOR to the day of the show.
* Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms after the children have been checked in at the theater. If there is an emergency, you will be called upon.
Special note:
Please do not attempt to pick up your child during the performance. All students will be under the supervision of responsible adults and will be safe for the length of the performance. The dressing rooms will be stocked with various activities.

Ticket Policies
Tickets go on sale April 17th and cost $8 in advance $10 at the door each. All studio accounts (tuition, etc.) must be PAID IN FULL before any family member may purchase recital tickets or pick up their 4 complimentary tickets per dancer. No exceptions!
***In an effort to create an organized and professional atmosphere, all tickets are general admission. Each member of the family must have a seat. No children will be allowed to sit on a parent’s lap (3 & under). Children who are running around the auditorium are distracting to audience members. All of our recitals are considered family entertainment and are around two hours in length.
Auditorium Rules
No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed in the auditorium or dressing rooms. When they are not onstage, dancers must remain in the dressing rooms with their class moms during the dress rehearsal and recital.
Backstage
Family members and friends don’t belong backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsals or the recital. The same applies during intermission and after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space, and dressing rooms are a private area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas. Those who wish to greet a performer after the show or present flowers should do so in the lobby areas.

Audience Etiquette
*Do not enter or exit the auditorium while there are dancers onstage. It is very distracting to the dancers and audience. Please wait until a dance is over to make your exit.
*Cell phones and pagers must be turned off or placed on vibrate.
*Please again, NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY or VIDEOGRAPHY (you can video the rehearsal). It can blind a dancer onstage making it dangerous for them. It can also disorient young dancers. If you feel that you must take pictures, please limit it to the dress rehearsal.
*Lastly applaud for ALL of the dancers. They have worked very hard this year to put on such a special performance.

Enjoy the show!

PART 3: Dress Rehearsal

Participation in the dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s), and being onstage; especially younger dancers. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible.

We run an organized and timely dress rehearsal; your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Students may arrive in their first performance costume or may change in the dressing room.
Dressing-Room Etiquette
Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. The students will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. No food or drink is allowed in the dressing rooms.

The Dress Rehearsals are combined to save time and to better accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. We will not be rehearsing in show order. All dancers must wear their costumes and hair and makeup needs to be done the correct way. You need to do full out makeup to practice. Combo classes need to wear their ballet costumes first. It is highly recommended to wear your first costume to the Carolina Theatre.

We will do our best to stay on schedule, but in the theatre there will always be a few snags, and it is better to fix them during the rehearsal rather than something happening during the show. Please be there 30 minutes before your scheduled time and be ready to go. We will NOT wait.

Keep in mind that rehearsals are, just that A REHEARSAL. There will be mess-ups, lighting will not be perfect, but the purpose is to get the dance onstage and in their costume and to practice it the way it will be in the show.

PART 2: Be Prepared
Pre-Planning
The recital isn’t a one-day activity. Gather all costumes, accessories, shoes, and makeup several days in advance so you’ll know if something is missing or isn’t right. Make a checklist of your child’s routines, listing their costume, tights, shoes, and any accessories, and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before going to the theater. Bring at least one extra pair of tights of each color. Also bring extra hair gel, hair nets, bobby pins, and hairspray.

Tips: Other Handy Extras
* Baby wipes/Shout wipes (to fix makeup mistakes or wash hands)
* Baby powder (for itchy costumes)
* Safety pins (for emergency costume repairs)
* Clear nail polish (to repair minor holes or runs in tights when there isn’t time to change them)
* Your pain reliever of choice
* Band-Aids (the “invisible” kind
)

Recital Info: Part I

PART 1: Costumes, Hair and Makeup
We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class. They are always age-appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Costumes include all accessories (hats, gloves, etc.), tights but no shoes.
Alterations
Although rare, alterations are sometimes needed after the costumes have been distributed and are the sole responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian. We do as much work as possible to finish off the costum
Costume Care
We recommend that each student’s name be placed in his or her costumes, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place the costumes in a garment bag with your child’s name on the outside. Pack accessories in a clear plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag and on each item. Hats should be stored in a hatbox or similar container to prevent damage. Press all costumes prior to the dress rehearsal and the performance. Please do not wash costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital).

TIPS: Costume Common Sense
* Always have a second pair of tights available.
* Place costumes in a garment bag for travel.
* Carry hats in a hatbox or container to prevent them from damage.
* Hang and press costumes before each performance.
* Place your name in all costumes and shoes.

Hair and Makeup
All female students are required to wear makeup for the recital: red lipstick, blush, eye shadow (not blue), eyeliner (for older dancers) and mascara. For the boys, a little blush works well. Please, for younger dancers, use YOUR judgement. These are only recommendations. But, lighting will wash the dancer’s faces out on stage; therefore we ask that you use some.

Uniform hairstyles are required. All female students must wear their hair in a bun or down as specified on the label on your costume bag. No bangs or beads are allowed. Dancers with short hair must pull their hair away from the face and slick it down.
